offering what I am learning & investigating / constantly working to decolonize the c l a s s space / we receive & ask questions together as community
about c l a s s /
a collaged practice of embodied rituals for /showing up/- for self, for community, for home/household, for art, for empathy, for action. this continues to be an experiment- a laboratory to move, feel and get what you need. we will dance, sweat, listen & make together. we might write, draw, sing or make collages. we will work to undo and rewrite understandings of postmodern dance technique that serve our own unique and perfect bodies. there will be improvisation scores, alignment practices, composition games and phrase material offered. as we collectively swim through the pandemic and all her portals, I continue to ask – what is possible? how can we cultivate collective resilience to support our own work outside of class – whether it be artmaking, protesting, healing, organizing, dismantling, learning – through showing up to practice together? week one of the pandemic, dear mentor/teacher/friend Michelle Boulé said- 'community is what happens when we continue to show up'...may we continue to learn from and be challenged by her offering.
my teaching practice is influenced by lessons from mentors/teachers/friends - Kendra Portier, Michelle Boulé, Jennifer Nugent, Joanna Kotze, Samita Sinha, Miguel Gutierrez, John Jasperse, Anna Sperber, Yanira Castro, Janet Panetta, Lisa Race.
I have been a guest teaching artist at University of Washington, Western Washington University, Velocity Dance Center, Amherst College, Louisiana State University, New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), Dancing Grounds and Lions Jaw Festival (virtual). I am a regular returning faculty at Dancewave, Gibney and Freeskewl (all currently via virtual platforms), and am the modern dance teacher at Greenwich Country Day Middle and High School. This Fall 2020 I offered a weekly outdoor dance class in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.
